Friday, July 24

Pierogi Fest 2026: Opening Day

Pierogi Fest kicks off at 11:00 AM in downtown Whiting along 119th Street, just steps from the Lake Michigan shoreline. This is the day to arrive early, explore the full festival grounds before the weekend crowds peak, and sample some of the best Polish and Eastern European food you will find anywhere in the Midwest.

Friday is traditionally the most relaxed day of the festival, with a strong local crowd and shorter lines at the food vendors. The festival runs from 11:00 AM to 11:00 PM. The highlight of the evening is the Wacky Parade at 7:00 PM, a quirky, irreverent procession down 119th Street that captures the playful spirit of the event. Do not miss it.

Indiana Dunes National Park: Ranger Programs

For a quieter start to your weekend, head to the Indiana Dunes National Park. Ranger-led educational programs run Friday morning from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM and 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. The Douglas Center for Environmental Education also hosts the "Nature's Masterpiece" art exhibit, open Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays at 9:30 AM through July 31. The park is free to enter at most trailheads and is a short drive from any Northwest Indiana community.

Saturday, July 25

Crown Point Farmers Market

Start your Saturday morning at the Crown Point Farmers Market at Bulldog Park (183 S. West St). Over 70 vendors offer fresh produce, local meats, baked goods, artisan products, and prepared foods. There is live music, a splash pad for kids, and the historic downtown square is just steps away. The market runs every Saturday from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM through September.

Pierogi Fest: Day Two (The Big Day)

Saturday is the peak day for Pierogi Fest. The festival grounds open at 11:00 AM and run until 11:00 PM. This is the day to bring the whole family, as the full lineup of entertainment, food vendors, and activities is in full swing. Expect live music on multiple stages, folk dance performances, and the full range of pierogi and Eastern European dishes. Saturday draws the largest crowds, so arrive early for the best parking and plan your food stops strategically.

Cedar Lake Farmers Market

The Cedar Lake Farmers Market operates on Saturday mornings as well, offering fresh local produce, artisan goods, and a community-focused shopping experience. It is a great option if you are on the western side of Lake County or spending the day near the lake.

Deep River Waterpark

Deep River Waterpark is also open Saturday from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. If the festival crowds are not your thing, a day at the waterpark with the family is a perfect alternative. The park is affordable, family-friendly, and one of the largest waterparks in the region.

Sunday, July 26

Pierogi Fest: Final Day (Family Day)

Sunday is widely considered the most family-friendly day of Pierogi Fest. The festival runs from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM with a more relaxed pace, more room to move through the crowds, and the full food and entertainment lineup. The highlight of the day is the Pierogi Toss and Eating Contest at 2:00 PM at the Oliver Stage. Contestants must register in advance at the Whiting-Robertsdale Chamber of Commerce at 1417 119th Street.
